| NCIS's Pauley Perrette, who plays forensics expert Abbey on the hit US crime drama, has met her real life Aussie equivalents on Sydney Harbour. On board HMAS Kanimbla, members of the Australian Defence Force Investigative Service (ADFIS) welcomed Perrette and gave her the rundown on their job of investigating serious incidents and crimes involving the navy. NCIS revolves around a fictional team of special agents from the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, which conducts inquiries involving the US Navy and Marine Corps. "We research everything obsessively on NCIS to make sure we get it right," Perrette told AAP on Tuesday. "We've always been really flattered that the American NCIS tells us we're doing a good job and we got the same feedback from the Australian navy, so that is something to be proud of." It is Perrette's first trip down under and she's spent this week hitting the antique stores in Sydney's Newtown and vintage shopping on Oxford Street. Perrette's real life fashion sense is a far cry from her character's Gothic style, and she promises she hasn't been shopping for corsets and platform black boots or getting any more tattoos while in Newtown. "I don't think I'm very much like Abbey, I'm clearly not as smart as Abbey," Perrette admits. Perrette praised her early study of psychology and criminal science as a big help in portraying the super intelligent forensic expert on screen. "It definitely helps me with the big words and understanding some of the concepts." "When I have time, I research and study everything so I know what I'm talking about but, sometimes, they'll hand you a bunch of dialogue at the last minute and you just have to fake it," Perrette laughs. One thing Perrette does have in common with her character is her obsession with serial killers, and reveals she is keen to learn more about Australian crime and has put Wolf Creek on the top of her DVDs to watch list. Perrette is in Australia to promote the release of NCIS season 6 on DVD, which hits stores on June 3. |
