Script VO Legend 622

[On a screen, there’s a live footage: a camera is zooming in the streets of Los Angeles]

ERIC: Acquiring Black Bird. East on Ocean, turning north onto Linden.

MACY [looking at the footage on a large screen]: traffic-camera acquisition.

ERIC: Leaving Pictometry going live in five.

[A new footage appears on the screen, zooming on a man walking]

MAN: Black Bird acquired. [The scene is now live, the man is speeding. He’s carrying a case. Kensi is following him]

KENSI: Crossing to the east side of the street, Sam. [She walks like a tourist] You got him? [Sam is reading a paper, on the other side]

SAM: I got him.

[Black bird spots Kensi and Sam. Macy is in the OPS center]

MACY: we’ve a visual, Kensi.

KENSI: Hey, welcome to the party, Mace. Repositioning. Back to me at the intersection.

SAM: Ease up, Kensi. You don’t wanna get there first. [They exchange a look]

[All of a sudden, gun shots crashed a window just near Black bird. People scream, the man fall down to protect himself.

KENSI: Shots fired. Shots fired. Black bird under fire.

[The man gets up and runs].

[OPS office]

MACY: All units close up, close up. Shots fired.

[Street. A car avoids Black Bird being shot]

MACY [over radio]:  Get me another angle.

ERIC: [over radio] Working on it, Mace.

[Black Bird is running across the intersection, Sam and Kensi try to catch him] (Car horn honking)[A car slips and crashes into another. Sam jumps over them, but several cars bumps]

SAM: Kensi, behind you!

[A car can’t stop, it’s hurrying straight to Kensi. She dives in time; Sam rushes to help her]

KENSI: Get Chandler. Go, go!

SAM: I need a GPS heading. [He looks around]

MACY: GPS transmitter's in the briefcase. We need a visual on Chandler, Sam. [The briefcase is open on the ground, full of bills…]

SAM: It's a negative, Mace. Blackbird has flown.

MACY: Crap!

[The office lift stops. Tony and Mc Gee get out]

McGEE: Tony, I'm not arguing with you.

TONY: You're arguing now.

McGEE: No, I'm not.

TONY: Yes, you are.

McGEE: This is not an argument.

TONY: Yes, it is.

McGEE: No, it's not.

TONY: Yes, it is. Hold on a second. [He answers a ringing phone]

TONY: Ziva David's phone.

MAN [over phone]: Ziva David, please.

TONY: She's not here right now. Actually she is just walking in. [Ziva is coming close; just for her ear] : man, deep voice, slightly accented, six-three, 200 pounds, Prada suit, Italian shoes, standing on the north side of the street, looking for Ziva.

[Ziva grabs her phone]

ZIVA: Thank you, Tony. [On the phone]: Hello

MAN: Ziva? [Speaking in Hebrew. Both speak in this language]

[Tony comes back to McGee]

TONY: For what were we arguing about before?

McGEE: We were not arguing.

TONY: Oh, that. Yes, we were.

McGEE: Do you understand that that's what we were arguing about...the fact that you will argue about the least little thing? Sometimes you will argue about nothing at all. You just want to argue.

TONY: That's not arguing, McContrary. Come on, have a little insight. It's called banter.

McGEE: No, it is not. Banter is lighthearted, witty repartee.

TONY: [in English accent] Go on.

McGEE: …It's your turn to get the coffee. Go.

GIBBS: Don't argue, DiNozzo. Can't we all just get along?

[Ziva, speaking in Hebrew, says she has to go]

GIBBS: Coffee can wait, McGee. Dead Marine can't.

[Tony has grabbed his bag and looks at Ziva]

TONY: Long-distance can be hard. Tele-friend from Tel Aviv?

ZIVA: You're jealous.

TONY: I’m not jealous.

ZIVA: Yes, you are.

TONY: No. I'm not arguing, boss.

McGEE: Are, too.

TONY: Am not.

[In a building under construction, they discover hung by his spread arms ; his legs are spread and tied to the wall too]

TONY: "X" marks the spot.

[The man has wires on his chest, tied to a battery. He is…Black Bird!! Ziva has found his ID]

ZIVA: Private First Class Nick Francis Chandler. Camp Pendleton, California.

McGEE: His left shoe is missing.

TONY: No, it's not.

McGEE: Yes, it is.

TONY: Get a load of this, McSnapper. Boarding pass. Los Angeles to DC. [McGee takes a pic, Gibbs gives it a look]

GIBBS: Arrived this morning.

TONY: Those red-eye flights can be murder.

DUCKY: What a marvelous view! The sweep of early American History at a single glance. From the Potomac to the Capital Dome. I doubt this fellow took any enjoyment from it.

ZIVA: Construction workers found him when they arrived to work at 8:00 a.m.

TONY: Guessing the flight arrived around 6:00 a.m. Half an hour from the airport. 20 minutes for the tie and fry. Puts time of death around 7:00 a.m.

DUCKY: 11 minutes past to be precise. [He points at the man’s wrist]: He's not the only thing that was fried.

McGEE: 24-volt battery. It's not enough voltage to electrocute him.

DUCKY: It's enough to suffocate him, Timothy.

McGEE: He was suffocated?

DUCKY: The application of a sustained current across the chest causes tetanic contraction of the respiratory muscles. The diaphragm and the intercostals seize up. I mean, this poor fellow would have been...fully conscious and yet unable to speak. Death by suffocation. It's a particularly excruciating, terrifying and slow way to die.

ZIVA: Wanted him to suffer.

GIBBS: Or talk.

[NCIS office. Agents desks]

McGEE: Chandler was deployed to Kuwait. Got back yesterday. Humanitarian leave.

GIBBS: Service records?

McGEE: Exemplary. Not so much as a scuffed boot.

TONY: Chandler bought his airline ticket at the gate. No checked luggage. Man in a hurry to get somewhere. Or away from someone.

GIBBS: Car rental?

ZIVA: Booked a car in flight with a credit card but did not pick it up.

TONY: Someone else picked him up first.

McGEE: Boss, we've got some activity here. We are not the only ones looking at Chandler. A BOLO's been issued out of Los Angeles, nationwide alert.

GIBBS: LAPD?

McGEE: Negative. [He types on his keyboard; Gibbs leans towards him]

GIBBS: Who issued the BOLO, McGee?

McGEE: We did. It's NCIS. [Al the agents look puzzled…]

              --------------------------FROZEN PICS---------------------

[The Los Angeles footage is on a screen watched by Gibbs and Director Vance]

MACY: [over video] All units close up. Close up. Shots fired. Give me another angle.

ERIC: Working on it, Mace.

[Vance stops the audio]

VANCE: Chandler's mother was beaten half to death in a home invasion last week. Before he left Kuwait, someone gave him a quarter of a million dollars. Told him if he delivered it to an address in Los Angeles, they wouldn't go back and finish the job on his mother. He was an easy target. He was an only child. A local informant tipped off our field office. We were waiting when he got off his flight. He agreed to work with us. But on the way to make the drop, somebody took a shot at him. The kid panicked. Tried to get home to see his mother in West Virginia, got as far as DC.

GIBBS: Not just about a dead Marine, Leon.

VANCE: I got a bad feeling about an arms-deal case we're investigating in Los Angeles.

GIBBS: You think the two cases are linked?

VANCE: Go find out. Pair up with them. Take somebody with you.

GIBBS: San Diego office?

VANCE: Los Angeles. OSP. They have the lead.

GIBBS: Macy still the agent in charge there?

VANCE: You got a problem?

GIBBS: She might. [He leaves]

VANCE: Well, you're on the same team. Work it out. [The sound plays back on the video]

SAM: [over video] It's a negative, Mace. Blackbird has flown.

[Ziva is writing at her desk. Tony has his back at her]

TONY: He got a name?

ZIVA: Who?

TONY: Star of David.

ZIVA: Oh, him. Yes, he has a name.

TONY: Trevor? Bruce? Marmaduke?

ZIVA: Michael.

TONY: Sounded more like a Bruce than a Michael on the phone.

[Gibbs joins them]

GIBBS: Okay, grab your toothbrush.

McGEE: Road trip?

GIBBS: Los Angeles.

TONY: Californ-i-a. What time do we leave?

GIBBS: Not we. [He points at McGee]

TONY: McGee? Not me? McGoo, you? Boss, I…

GIBBS: Joint operation with OSP. Chandler case. I need you to follow up here. [To McGee]: Pick up's in 45.

ZIVA: OSP?

TONY: Office of Special Projects. NCIS undercover. Surveillance.

McGEE: Super cool toys.

ZIVA: After our last trip to L.A., I do not understand why you would think I would be such an eager platypus, Tony.

TONY: Beaver. Eager beaver. Not platypus. Why does that bother me so much? Don't answer that. [Cell phone ringing]: Answer that.

ZIVA: Shalom. [Speaking in Hebrew]

[Tony comes close to McGee]

McGEE: Well, Tony, I guess the boss knows who's got his back.

TONY: Not just his back, McProbie, his ears as well.

GIBBS: What are you talking about the ears?

TONY: The aeroplane...five-and-a-half hours flying time. You're going to have to chew the fat,

McChitty-Chat. What are you going to talk to him about?

McGEE: I've got to talk to him?

TONY: Oh, yeah. Small talk. Better brush up on your boat building. Maybe pick up a copy of Sniper Monthly. Seriously, don't mention marriage, divorce or Vance.

ZIVA: OK, Yeah. [She hangs up the phone. To Tony, and getting up] Cover for me?

TONY: What? - When will you be back?

ZIVA: Soon.

McGEE: Later. [They’re gone]

[Three phones ringing on three desks]

TONY: (chuckles]

[Abby is on her phone, and opens an e-mail from Macy]

ABBY: You do, or you did? Okay, I'll do that. You, too. Ciao.

[Gibbs is just entering her lab]

ABBY: That was weird.

GIBBS: What's weird, Abs?

ABBY: Special Projects in Los Angeles...they just e-mailed me confirming their interest in our "X" man.

GIBBS: PFC Chandler.

ABBY: That's him.

GIBBS: Special Agent Macy?

ABBY: That's her. She wants me to copy her on all my findings… You know her. Not a question, Gibbs. You know her.

GIBBS: You find out anything, Abs, you contact me first, and then you can send it on to her.

ABBY: Are you going somewhere?

GIBBS: Yeah. That's what I came here to tell you... Los Angeles.

ABBY: Into the lioness' den? [He kisses her on her cheek]

GIBBS: I'm taking McGee. [He leaves]

ABBY: Gibbs! [He stops]: It's just...the last time you guys went to L.A., one of you didn't come back.

GIBBS: I'll bring him home, Abs. [He’s gone]

ABBY: [For herself] Just...make sure you bring yourself back, too.

[Tony is eating and speaking on his phone at his desk]

TONY: Did he use a credit card for that?

MAN OVER PHONE: Yes, he used a credit card for the call. [McGee’s phone is ringing]

TONY: So he just made one call from the airphone, huh? Okay. Yeah, that's all I need to know. Thanks. Bye. [He gets up, comes close to McGee’s desk, but the phone stops ringing. He looks angrily at Ziva’s empty chair, throws his burger down in a garbage can, and takes his phone]

[Phone line rings]

ZIVA: [Over phone] Hello ?

TONY: Hi, I'm not keeping you from anything, am I? Like work?

ZIVA: Tony, I'm working on something. I'm following a lead.

TONY: A lead? On Chandler?

ZIVA: It might not come to anything.

TONY: Care to share?

ZIVA: Tony, I cannot talk, I have to go.

TONY: Go! (phone line humming)…Gone.

[Ziva is sitting at a cafe, with a man, who smiles]

MICHAEL: DiNozzo?

ZIVA: I do not want to lie to him, Michael.

MICHAEL:  A small lie. Your father sends his love.

ZIVA: What else does my father send?

MICHAEL: Me.

           ----------------------------FROZEN PICS-----------------------------

[A car parks near an old building in a deserted area. McGee and Gibbs get out of it]

McGEE: Boss, you sure this is the right place? [Gibbs points at a camera which follows their move]

McGEE: Hi. [He waves]

[A lift stops; Kensi opens its door]

KENSI: Welcome to OSP. I'm Kensi.

GIBBS: Special Agent Gibbs.

McGEE: Agent McGee. [They shake hands]

KENSI: You sail, Agent McGee? [He has a Boat Building magazine]

McGEE: No.

KENSI: Build boats?

McGEE: No, it's a conversation starter.

KENSI: Works. You guys get any sleep on the flight?

McGEE: Not a wink.

GIBBS: Slept the whole way. [The lift starts]

KENSI: Been here before?

GIBBS: Yeah.

McGEE: No.

KENSI: Buckle up. [The place is full of monitors and on a very large screen Vance is speaking]

VANCE: NSA is worried about the Horn of Africa. Somalia, in particular.

MACY: Increased chatter?

VANCE: Opposite. Suddenly, all they're hearing is crickets.

MACY: Maybe the bad guys have all given up and gone home. [Gibbs and McGee have to get down stairs to join the center]

VANCE: Or maybe they're on their way over here. You tell Gibbs to call me when he arrives.

MACY: Well, you can tell him yourself.

VANCE: Gibbs.

GIBBS: Hello, Director Vance.

VANCE: I know how excited you two are about working together. I told SecNav I'd have my best people on this one. A lot of nervous people at the Pentagon.  Don't make me have to come out there.

[Gibbs and Macy look at each other. Nate, Kensi and McGee look at them]

MACY: He told you I got the lead?

GIBBS: Yeah, he told me.

MACY: You still drink coffee? [They go to her office. She puts a file on her desk]

MACY: It's everything we know about Chandler. How's his mother?

GIBBS: She wants her son. What was he on?

MACY: Follow the money. Put a GPS locator in his briefcase. Shadowed him to the rendezvous. Didn't have a lot of time to set it up.

GIBBS: Someone was running counter surveillance. Whoever he was going to meet took him out to protect themselves. Your team...got made.

MACY: My team didn't get made.

GIBBS: You said...it was a rushed job.

MACY: And you've never had a blown surveillance op?

GIBBS: Who was he meeting with?

MACY: Someone called Liam.

GIBBS: How's this tied to the arms deal you're investigating?

MACY: Max Talia is brokering the arms deal, paid in cash. Says the money's coming in from overseas.

GIBBS: Not much of a connection. [He comes closer to Macy who is sit on her chair, with the cup of coffee she gave him] : You have met Talia?

MACY: Meet's in a couple of hours. Local diner. Undercover. It's what we do. [He drinks a little] A word of advice, Jethro. Let me do my job. [Gibbs puts his coffee on the desk]

GIBBS: Like you did the first time we met? [He points at his cup] That is not coffee. [He leaves, and bumps into Nate]

NATE: Hey! [They exchange a look and Gibbs goes away]

NATE: They're all set at the diner.

MACY: Callen?

NATE: Haven't seen him... yet.

MACY: Get out of my head, Nate.

NATE: Operational psychologist. It's my job to be in your head. So, Gibbs...You want to talk about him?

MACY: No.

NATE: Well, he doesn't trust you. Body language screamed it. He couldn't wait to leave.

MACY: Nate, you just passed him in the doorway.

NATE: You should have slept with him way back then...whenever then was. I was probably in elementary school, yeah?

MACY: How do you know I didn't?

NATE: I can tell you right now...

MACY: Don't answer that.

NATE: Okay, cool.

MACY: You scare me.

NATE: Yup.

MACY: Leave.

NATE: Yup.

MACY: Find Callen.

NATE: Yeah, right.

[Macy puts the video on; she sighs, looking at Gibbs and McGee outside the NCISLA office]

[Near their car]

GIBBS: Hey, DiNozzo, tell me you got something

[NCIS office]

TONY: No luck with the security footage at the airport. Chandler got lost in the crowd. The truck batteries used for the fry-up are cheap Chinese imports. Thousands sold every year.

[Los Angeles. Gibbs has turn his back to the camera]

GIBBS: That's what you haven't got.

[NVCIS office]

TONY: Also checking similar M.O.'s. Guys knew what they were doing. Means they've done it before, right? [Ziva is back]

[Los Angeles]

GIBBS: We're looking for a guy named Liam.

TONY: Liam. Got it.

GIBBS: Ziva?

TONY: Ziva… [Mouthing: Boss]

ZIVA: [Mouthing: No]

TONY: She's following up on a lead. [She shakes her head] Looks like it didn't go anywhere.

[Los Angeles]

TONY: How was the flight, boss?

GIBBS: Swell. McGee kept me entertained.

TONY: McGee? He is full of surprises. Well done, that man.

[NCIS office]

GIBBS: Stay on it.

TONY: Will do, boss.

[Los Angeles. Gibbs grabs the magazine from McGee’s hands]

GIBBS: You done with that?

McGEE: Yeah, I'm done. [He wants to get into the car]

GIBBS: No, stay. Keep 'em company. I'm visiting a friend. [He’s gone]

[NCIS office]

ZIVA: I'm sorry about yesterday.

TONY: That's okay. I like to keep insanely busy.

ZIVA: I said I was sorry. The lead did not lead anywhere.

TONY: Don't sweat on it. No problemo, Davido.

[OPS center. Sam is using his fingers to enlarge a pic on the screen, briefing McGee and Nate]

SAM: Meeting's at the diner at Venice Beach. We'll be taking feeds from four cameras. We have a traffic cam at the intersection. We have a store security cam across the street, two pre-placed minis inside the diner.

[Macy joins them]

MACY: We up?

SAM: Coming on stream.

MACY: Kensi?

SAM: 15 minutes out. Kickoff's in 30.

MACY: Callen? [Sam snorts and doesn’t answer. She looks at Nate who shakes his head. She dials a number]

McGEE: Who's Callen? [Nate smiles]

[A phone is ringing: Macy’s call…Callen doesn’t answer. He is sitting in a park near the beach with Gibbs]

CALLEN: Still building that boat in your basement?

GIBBS: Yeah.

CALLEN: The same one?

GIBBS: No, no. A different one.

CALLEN: Two boats. Three wives.

GIBBS: Four...wives.

CALLEN: Did you see Mace?

GIBBS: Yeah, I saw her.

CALLEN: You have a long memory.

GIBBS: So, how are you, Callen?

CALLEN: Not bad. Even bordering on good some days.

GIBBS: You still looking, huh?

CALLEN: I'm still looking. Is there a reason we're not meeting in a bar right now?

GIBBS: Well, yeah, it's 10:00 in the morning.

CALLEN: [Getting up] I don't know what's worse, getting older or getting wiser?

[Gibbs follows him, they walk. Callen spots a blond girl in a bike]

CALLEN: [Speaking Russian]: I don’t want excuses. You tell him he has until the end of the week.

GIBBS: [Speaking Russian]: What happens at the end of the week?

CALLEN: [Speaking Russian]: If he doesn’t pay what he owes… [He sees that the girl has stopped in his back and is puzzled]

CALLEN: [with Russian accent] It was a good game, but, the striker never should have been red-carded.

GIBBS: Might have mentioned you were undercover.

CALLEN: Well, I'm not. Just for her. She lives across the street from me. Just got here from St. Petersburg. Lonely. Figure if she thinks I'm Russian Mafia, she won't want to make friends. [His phone rings, Macy’s calling] -Sometimes you get weeks to plan them, sometimes a day. Meeting an arms dealer named Talia. Doesn't trust anyone. I don't like our chances. Kind of like that first op in Serbia. You saved my ass on that one.

GIBBS: That was Moscow.

CALLEN: No, no. My ass did not need saving in Moscow. That was Petrov. Petrov's ass always needed saving.

GIBBS: Worked with some good people.

CALLEN: Yup. Made some good friends.

GIBBS: Lost a few.

[They stop, shake hands and hug briefly]

CALLEN: Next time, we park in a bar. No more BOLO in the park.

GIBBS: Next time.

[OPS center. Sam is zooming footage on the screen]

SAM: Camera two is up in the diner.

MAN: Camera two recording.

[Sam enlarges a video of a man on his phone]

SAM: We getting this call with Talia?

ERIC: Trying.

[A phone number is on the screen near Talia. Sam gets intel directly]

SAM: Caller's a cell number...cheap throwaway.

ERIC: Bringing up the outside links.

SAM: Camera three and four are up. [He takes the 4 live footages and slides them to a larger monitor. McGee is amazed]

SAM: Game time.

MACY: [On her earphone] Callen, where the hell are you?

CALLEN: [Over phone] At the diner. Looking right at you, Mace.

[Outside of the diner]

CALLEN: Hey, Eric...

[OPS center]

CALLEN: [over video] …this wire itches. [He points at his chest, Eric sighs]

SAM: Need a sound check, G.

CALLEN: [over radio] 18 years.

[Outside of the diner. Callen is putting on a jacket]

CALLEN: Wouldn't kill you to cut Gibbs a little bit of slack, Mace.

[OPS center. Nate glances at Mace]

[Outside the diner]

CALLEN: Honk once if you can hear me, Sam.

[OPS center]

SAM: Hadley... horn... once.

[Outside the diner. A car honk horns. Callen concentrates briefly and enters]

[OPS center]

ERIC: He's in. Street's clear.

[Callen spots a man eating alone. He comes close and sits down opposite]

CALLEN: You Talia?

TALIA: Yeah. My cousin had a diner...in Chicago. Not like this, though. Old-style booths and...what do you call them? Soda fountains. His roaches probably ran a little bigger, too. Hygiene wasn't one of cousin Mario's strong points.

[A man is looking at them carefully]

CALLEN: Acquaintance tells me you're in the market.

TALIA: And who are you?

CALLEN: Somebody who can get you what you want.

TALIA: I don't know you.

CALLEN: I come very highly recommended, or you wouldn't be here.

TALIA: Friend of a friend of some lowlife.

CALLEN: Exactly. We all take some risk. So what do you need?

TALIA: Not me, a client.

CALLEN: Okay. What does your client need?

TALIA: He needs toys.

CALLEN: Hunting rifles? Shotguns? BB guns? What?

TALIA: He's thinking more Fourth of July. Big toys.

[Callen spots the man writing something after having waved the waitress]

CALLEN: You wired?

TALIA: What?

CALLEN: I said are you wired?

TALIA: Are you? [They stare at each other]

CALLEN: When?

TALIA: Tomorrow.

CALLEN: Can't happen.

TALIA: Look, "no" is not a word my client understands.

CALLEN: Then let me explain it to him.

Waitress: Excuse me, sir. The gentleman over there asked me to give you this.

[She puts the paper on the table and leaves them. The man and Callen exchange a look. Talia reads the paper on which these words are written: HE’S A COP. Talia looks through the window, then faces Callen]

TALIA: Buzz off.

CALLEN: What?

TALIA: You heard me. I said buzz off.

[OPS center]

NATE: Op's over. Time to get him out of there.

MACY: Callen, we're done.

[At the diner, Callen sighs, gets up and stops at Talia’s side]

CALLEN: You know, it's not your client you should be worried about.

[In the OPS center, Sam smiles while G. gets out the diner]

[At the diner, Talia thanks the man with a nod]

[OPS center]

ERIC: Got playback on Talia's call.

MACY: Go.

TALIA: [On recording]: I know, I know. Look, I'm working on it. Look, just give me a few more days...and you can...everything you want, Liam.

ERIC: Quality sucks, Mace.

MACY: Replay, isolate the last word.

TALIA: … everything you want, Liam... everything you want, Liam.

SAM: There's our connection. Same guy Chandler was meeting.

MACY: Same guy.

                    ----------------FROZEN PICS------------------------

[Macy’s office]

SAM: Chandler was coerced into smuggling a quarter million dollars from Kuwait by this guy Liam.

McGEE: Wiring it to a bank would be easier.

CALLEN: Would have left a paper trail.

SAM: And at the same time, Liam approaches Talia, asking him to get him some serious fire power.

GIBBS: Cash, weapons...

CALLEN: And a deadline.

GIBBS: You have a plan, Special Agent Macy? [He looks sure she hasn’t…]

MACY: Talia's the plan. Sam, will you give Agents Gibbs and McGee a full brief of the operation. Include Renko.

SAM: Sure thing. [Gibbs and McGee follow Sam and leave the office]

CALLEN: 18 years. Would have made you a lieutenant in the Marine Corps, Military Police. Gibbs was still a gunny...

MACY: Don't go there.

CALLEN: Did you work on a case together?

MACY: Why do you want to know?

CALLEN: Just looking out for my family.

MACY: G, you don't have any family.

CALLEN: That's cold, Mace.

MACY: But true.

CALLEN: Gibbs is family. You, too. Got any photographs in uniform?

MACY: Yes. And no, you can't see them.

CALLEN: Okay. I'll just ask Gibbs what happened.

MACY: Yeah, let me know if you do. I want to be there to see him sit you on your ass.

[NCIS office. Ducky’s place]

DUCKY: He can be very disconcerting, can't he? Popping up behind you just when you have something to give him.

TONY: Man's a mind reader.

DUCKY: Pretend you're him.

TONY: [Gibb’s voice] What you got, Duck?

DUCKY: Heh heh, that's very good. The dreaded paper chase, Jethro. I need your signature.

TONY: Okay, well, I'm gonna stop being Jethro and revert to being plain old very Special Agent... Anthony DiNozzo. Where do I sign?

DUCKY: All seven pages. And while you sign, you can tell me why you came down here to see me.

TONY: Ziva.

DUCKY: Ah. Personal, not professional.

TONY: It's not what you think.

DUCKY: I'm not thinking anything. What are you thinking?

TONY: I'm thinking she's worried about something. She seems distracted.

DUCKY: Yes, well, we all get distracted. Keep signing. She ever talk to you about what she did when she went back to Israel?

DUCKY: No. She was involved in an undercover operation in Morocco.

TONY: Yeah, I know all about that.

DUCKY: She almost died.

TONY: Really? I didn't know about that.

DUCKY: There was a glimpse of her on some newsreel footage after the bomb blast. If she's distracted...

TONY: You know, I'm just probably overreacting. And look at that! Done and done. Anything else I should know about? [He refers to Chandler’s body on the autopsy table]

DUCKY: Cause of death was indeed suffocation, brought about by electric shock. Numerous contusions

and bruising suggests that he was forcibly abducted before he was strung up and tortured.

TONY: Hm. Lovely.

DUCKY: And there was skin. On the rope. Abby found epithelial tissue, which suggests that the man

for whom you are looking will have a rather nasty rope burn on one of his hands.

[Tony is watching footage: Ziva is put in an ambulance, a man leans forward her face; this man is…Michael! Tony goes with a pic of his face to Abby’s lab]

ABBY: So which case is this exactly?

TONY: My case. Special investigation. Top secret.

ABBY: Ugh. I'm not even gonna ask. Does it have anything to do with Ziva?

TONY: Thought you weren't gonna ask.

ABBY: Okay, I won't ask. Just tell me. Got a match! Immigration photo. Michael Aaron Rivkin Israeli citizen, lives in Tel Aviv, works for a bank, and flew into D.C. two days ago. Is that the answer to the question I'm not allowed to ask?

TONY: Depends. Any more photos?

[Los Angeles. OPS center. Sam, Gibbs and McGee are working on the footage of Chandler being aimed]

McGEE: Right there. You see it? A flash.

SAM: It's a reflection in a car window.

McGEE: It's a reflection of a flash. Can you pull up the bullet trajectory data?

[Sam changes the footage on the screen, enlarges a new one with the bullet trajectory]

McGEE: Boss, I really got to get one of these. Obviously, budgets permitting.

SAM: It's a single source. Shooter was in the street.

GIBBS: Or in the car.

SAM: Let's pull up LM-Safe, see if there are any other camera angles we can access.

McGEE: That's the traffic cam. Two security cameras.

SAM: Got a fourth angle. ATM camera.

McGEE: I'll input the network data. [He types on a keyboard. Gibbs looks above his shoulder]

McGEE: There it is.

[Sam enlarges a pic of the street]

SAM: There's Chandler.

McGEE: It's an SUV, but you can't see any plates.

SAM: Got it. [He zooms the SUV] There's our shooter. Might even be Liam.

GIBBS: Send the photo to Abby.

SAM: Okay. Navy Op directory. Abby Sciuto. On its way. [He sends a mail with the pic very easily, using one finger on the screen…]

McGEE: Oh, I really got to get one of these.

SAM: You got problems.

[NCIS office]

ZIVA: [On phone] Do you have a current address? Okay. Thanks. [She hangs up and points at Tony]

ZIVA: I have a lead.

TONY: A real lead? I mean...Really? A lead?

ZIVA: 18 months ago, a man was found strung up and wired to a battery in a forest outside of Baltimore. Same M.O. as Chandler's. Prime suspects are brothers. Stephano and Benji Kass. They run a scaffolding business.

TONY: Why weren't they charged?

ZIVA: All witnesses disappeared.

[Tony and Ziva drive to a building under construction]

TONY: Well, look at that. Six-cylinder gas-powered beast.

ZIVA: V-8. Diesel.

TONY: Batteries in here. [Under the hood]

ZIVA: Here. [She points at the side of the truck]

TONY: Over there.

ZIVA: Two 12-volt batteries. New.

[The brothers are back to their vehicle]

STEPHANO: You looking for something?

TONY: Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, NCIS. You must be the Kass boys. Is this your rig?

STEPHANO: What if it is?

ZIVA: Tony, Chandler's left shoe was missing. [A shoe is half hidden under garbage]

STEPHANO: Go! [They start running]

ZIVA: Freeze!

[Ziva cross the path of Stephano and punches him. She aims at him lying on the ground] (grunting)

ZIVA: I'm guessing Stephano?

[His brother is climbing the echaffaudage. Tony pursue him. The man spins and is hanging over the vide]

BENJI: (screaming) [Tony grabs his hands]

TONY: Looks like the guys who put the scaffolding together got a little careless? Wait a minute. That would be you, wouldn't it? That's a nasty rope burn you got there. [Around his hand]

BENJI: I'm losing my grip. Come on.

TONY: How much did he pay you?

BENJI: Come on man, please.

TONY: How much?

BENJI: Nothing, okay. We owed him one. He called us. He told us to pick Chandler up at the airport and e-mailed us his flight and photo.

TONY: What was his name?

BENJI: Come on. You don't know what he's like, okay? He'll kill me.

TONY: Benji, my hands are getting a little sweaty. And I don't know what's going to happen if I, you know...[He opens one of his hand]

BENJI: Aah! Aah! Unh!

TONY: For instance. What's his name? [He grabs both hands again]

BENJI: Okay. His name is Liam.

TONY: What's his last name?

BENJI: It's just... It's just Liam.

[Tony helps him getting up and cuffs him]

                      ----------------FROZEN PICS-----------------

[OPS center. Gibbs is calling; McGee types on a keyboard]

GIBBS: What about Stephano?

TONY: [Over phone] No, he's not talking.

GIBBS: Work it, DiNozzo. Need a last name for Liam.

[He hangs up and leans towards McGee]

GIBBS: Anything?

McGEE: on the guy in the SUV, she's going to call us when she gets a match.

[Macy and Callen join them]

MACY: What have you got?

GIBBS: Chandler's killers.

McGEE: Got a call from Liam to grab him at the airport in D.C.

MACY: No last name?

GIBBS: Working it.

KENSI: Mace, Talia's on his phone.

ERIC: Lights down. On-screen.

KENSI: Bugged his car while he was in the diner. Surveillance video, coming in live.

ERIC: He's on his speaker phone. Quality's not great.

TALIA: I need to speak to Mattie Rae. [The man in the diner]

MATTIE: Speaking.

TALIA: The diner this morning. How'd you know he was a cop?

MATTIE: Who is this?

TALIA: Name's Max... Talia.

MATTIE: How did you get my number?

TALIA: Waitress at the diner. I can see why you gave it her. She's a cutie. Saved me a lot of embarrassment this morning, Mattie.

MATTIE: Yeah, well, that chump just about ruined my life, so, easy favor, you know?

TALIA: Five years for dealing guns, huh?

MATTIE: Wait a minute. How did you know that? Who you been talking to?

TALIA: I've got friends, Mattie. Made some inquiries. I heard you're back in the game.

MATTIE: Maybe.

TALIA: Look, Mattie, I got a cashed-up client looking for some specialized ordinance in a hurry. I could cut you in.

MATTIE: How specialized?

TALIA: Assault weapons, C-4. You can handle that?

MATTIE: Well, I know people who could get you a tank if you had a big enough suitcase. Look, I need to meet this guy first. I got to know who I'm dealing with.

TALIA: There's an old parking garage downtown, East Temple, where it hits the train line. 40 minutes. Work for you?

MATTIE: I'll be there.

[They cut the call off]

[OPS center]

MACY: Looks like we've got ourselves a meeting.

[East Temple]

McGEE: [Over radio] All right, camera three's on-line.

SAM: [In the OPS] All units stand by. Mattie Rae is here.

[Mattie is standing and waiting]

McGEE: And here comes Talia.

[His car is stopping in the alley].

McGEE: Still waiting on the guest of honor.

[Macy, Gibbs and Callen are waiting in a car]

MACY: Talia's made the call. Liam's on his way.

CALLEN: I didn't think Liam would be the kind of guy to show up to a meeting on short notice.

MACY: He's under pressure. Losing Chandler screwed up his timetable. He probably had to find that cash fast from someplace else. [Mattie and Talia are speaking gently]

GIBBS: He's desperate.

MACY: Our advantage.

SAM: [in the OPS] Vehicle entering the alley. [over radio in the car] They're on the move. [Mattie and Talia head to the car. Callen, Macy and Gibbs get out of theirs. They come close to the alley, hidden behind a car]

MACY: That's Liam.

[Liam is the passenger. The driver stops the car in front of Talia and Mattie]

GIBBS: McGee, go tight on Liam. What do you see?

McGEE: Zoom in on camera one, please. Wearing jeans and a sports coat. He's carrying...Looks like a long barrel...

CALLEN: It's a hit! [He, Macy and Gibbs run to Liam, who already shots at Talia; Mattie prevents him to be shot by grabbing him and they dive behind a car. Gibbs kills Liam; Callen hits the driver. Kensi comes with a car]

MACY: Separate them. [She points at Mattie and Talia]

KENSI: On your feet, Mr. Talia. Hands behind your back.

TALIA: You're the friggin' waitress from the diner.

KENSI: Should have tipped me better, huh?

[Gibbs helps Mattie getting on his feet]

GIBBS: Gibbs.

MATTIE: Special Agent Mike Renko. Thanks for the spot.

MACY: You okay, Mike?

RENKO: Yeah. I'll be fine. That got interesting pretty fast, huh, Mace? How did you guys know it was a hit?

GIBBS: Weapons had silencers.

[Callen is searching Liam’s body]

RENKO: Why did they try to take us out? We had what Liam wanted.

[Callen finds a wallet with ID and a key]

MACY: Maybe he got what he wanted elsewhere.

GIBBS: You were a loose end.

CALLEN: Motel on The Strip. [He shows the key]

[Gibbs, Macy and Callen rush into the room. It’s empty.]

MACY: Clear.

[There are 4 suitcases full of C-4 and weapons]

MACY: Four blank passports. Four suitcases filled with weapons. And enough C-4 to bring down a building.

GIBBS: Room's still booked.

CALLEN: That means whoever Liam's supplying is probably coming back to collect this.

MACY: Liam's a ghost. They've probably never met him.

CALLEN: Probably.

[NCIS office. Abby’s lab]

TONY: Get any more hits on our secret thingy?

ABBY: Do you know how busy I've been?

TONY: I know how busy you've been.

ABBY: Okay, just asking. We got one hit, but it is a doozy. Guy on the right, Michael Rivkin, our supposed Israeli banker. [He’s leant towards a car, close to the driver]: Guy on the left, Director of Mossad, Eli David, also known as...

TONY: Ziva's father.

ABBY: She must know Rivkin.

TONY: You don't ask her. You don't breathe a word of this, Abby. [He deletes the photo]

ABBY: Tony…

TONY: I mean it.

[OPS center. They have a hit for Liam. Kensi briefs Gibbs, McGee, Renko and Sam]

KENSI: Liam Patrick Coil, former IRA arms dealer. Raised money and smuggled arms into Northern Ireland in the '90s. After the peace treaty, he went freelance. He sold weapons everywhere from Chechnya to the Horn of Africa.

GIBBS: Supplying terrorists.

McGEE: How come we've never heard of him?

KENSI: He's been living in New York. Fake job, fake name, fake life...

[Nate joins them]

NATE: It's called a legend. It's a word coined by the Stasi, the East German secret police back during the Cold War.

[While he speaks, the camera shows Callen putting in a wallet ID and credit cards]

NATE: Now, their idea was to create a cover so deep that it could stand up to any scrutiny. Passports, documents, work papers...

[Callen takes a watch]

NATE: even family histories.

[G. puts a gun in his back. He wears a white shirt and a jacket like Liam could]

NATE: And none of it true. All a...legend.

[Callen is looking at his reflection…and Macy looks at his face through a camera]

[NCIS office. Ziva is leaving. Tony hurries to take the same lift]

TONY: Hey! Thanks for holding that.

ZIVA: You're welcome, Tony.

TONY: Never thought I'd say this, but I almost miss McGee. Almost. What about you? You miss him?

ZIVA: Yes, I do.

TONY: Miss anyone else? Gibbs?

ZIVA: Some.

TONY: What about your friend from Tel Aviv?

ZIVA: Tony!

TONY: I'm just saying.

ZIVA: Yes. I miss Michael, too.

TONY: When he called the other day, I thought he must have been here.

ZIVA: No. Sadly, Michael is not here.

[Motel room. Callen is waiting for his guest] (Knocking on door) [G. opens the door, a hand on his gun]

CALLEN: I've been expecting you.

MAN: It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Liam. [He faces Callen: he’s Michael Rivkin!!!]
